Maqam Productions drives artistic innovation and creative development through a multi-faceted program of Residency, Commissions, and Performances, including the groundbreaking development of Maqam Opera. The department hosts two month-long artist residencies annually, bringing international musicians to collaborate with New York's vibrant musical community. Through our commissioning program, we support emerging artists and composers in creating contemporary works that engage with Maqam traditions, with a particular focus on artists from Brooklyn's diverse Middle Eastern music scene. These initiatives culminate in live performances, rehearsals, and recordings, fostering a dynamic environment for artistic exploration and development while advancing Maqam's evolution in contemporary context.
